League News 2005 Summer News - Random Notes from a Short, White Jewish Guy

Volume nine from the Short White Jewish guy

By Marc Brafman (and if you want, you can email Brafman at mbrafman@sportingnews.com)

Here's a belated, first-round edition of Playoff Random Notes!

  • Let's kick it off with the "Brafman Soapbox Rant of the Day!"... IF I knew something was going to happen, told EVERYONE it was going to happen, and watched us let it happen anyways, does that make me a "wise-ass," a "know-it-all" or all of my doubters "stupid?" I'll go with option number three. In last Wednesday's game against the Gators, we should have walked Big Klu every time he came to the plate. The old geezer who came up after him was only 2-4 and didn't put the ball in the parking lot. With no wind, Big Klu was the only guy who could put one out. I don't mind if we lose, but not when we beat ourselves by pitching to Big Klu with first base open. And don't give me that crap about getting him out in his first at-bat. The man hit the park bathroom building on the fly!
  • There's nothing worst than hitting the ball hard only to see the other team make great defensive plays. That, my boys, is what separates them and us.
  • I think we are coming together at the right time and I see no reason why we can't run the table in the C-league.
  • Hey, did you guys see that Jason Giambi is hitting home runs again? I'm not sure why I'm pointing this out.
  • Not since New York's famed Studio 54 closed in the early 80s has there been a party more self-promoted than Tony's 30th B-day last weekend.
  • I think it's time to boycott ESPN. They are NOT the news! The games and stories are the news. Also, please get rid of Stu Scott and Kenny Mayne. Who wants to watch them "make" Sports Center? How about you just "show us" Sports Center???
  • One more ESPN thought... You've got to feel bad for the band that sold their soul to the devil for ESPN's "50-50" Promotion. Do you think anyone will want to hear that nails-on-the-chalkboard "Life is an Open Road to Me" song EVER AGAIN???
  • Does anybody care that there is a Colin Farrell sex tape floating around?
  • If there was ever a movie that DIDN'T need to be remade, it was The Bad News Bears. How can they make it any better? You can't.
  • But, then again, the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is pretty good, so what the hell do I know?
  • Watching the Rooster coach us on the bases has become one of the highlights of my Wednesday nights. The way he gets down and moves around like a real coach is great. Rob Johnson would be proud!
  • What ever happened to the actor that played "Data" from the movie Goonies?
  • With Tony Bruno starting up soon, it appears no show on our network from 8AM-5PM will originate live from Chicago? Does this strike anybody else as odd?
  • If you haven't scene Stanley's hair lately, check it out. Vintage 1970's Dr. J fro.
  • Nothing says "family fun" like what I saw at the Tom Petty concert on Friday night. The family sitting in front of me was passing a joint back and forth between themselves. Two brothers, mother and father all getting high together! Sort of like the Brafman household, where we passed the Pepto back and forth after eating chilli with our Jewish stomachs.
  • Why do people still wear fanny packs? Those went out of style with break dancing.
  • Nothing exciting to report on the Lindsay front this week. She is currently up in boring Minnesota shooting her next movie. Let's hope she eats a little while shopping in the Mall of America.
  • Listening to Bobby Z and Korney argue about who left early... and why Z was late to work since he didn't know the way etc. etc... doesn't remind me of Paul and Patrick as much as it does an old married couple like shana and myself.

That's it for now. See ya later!
